Fashion blogs are my addiction. I think that people who are quick to criticize them need to take another look. Most of them are very professional and well written by young women that are incredibly driven. I love the emphasis on personal style and artistry.
Future employers are going to be fighting over these girls. I know that a lot of companies I talk to now are looking for social media experience, web 2.0 skills, and general computer knowledge. This is only going to become more essential.

Chictopia is my new favorite website. Find me on it here if you are curious about my personal page. I have not yet posted some personal style pictures but I have posted pictures of some things online that I have really loved. Most are from Etsy!

Personal style is something I feel passionate about. What I love about Chictopia is that it is essentially a community revolving around personal style. I love seeing new pictures every day of the amazing outfits different people put together just because they love looking amazing and unique. It's also nice to see a much wider range of body shapes without some being marginalized as "plus sized" or "petite".  Plus, people post in the forums asking for or giving style advice. It seems to be an online community with no snarkiness, which is refreshing.

What's also great is how it seems to be more about putting together great outfits rather than buying the most expensive thing. I love looking at fashion magazines but since they are driven by a place of blatant consumerism the message is always BUY BUY BUY. Of course chictopians also like to shop but since the overwhemling majority of them are real women that just like fashion, what they wear is always more realistic in price. Plus, Chictopia has reignited my passion for thrift stores! I really need to explore more, I am in the market for vintage leather belts,  folksy dresses in light colors, and beaded necklaces.  Basically, I like looking like a gypsy as much as possible.

fashion, fun, and snacks

I hardly ever get a manicure or a pedicure so today was a special treat. Plus, I got to go with my friends Amy and Jessica. OPI is my favorite kind of nailpolish. I have my toes painted in Do You Lilac It? right now. I love the gray-ish purple. My hands are done in Moon Over Mumbai. I actually thought that color would be a little darker.

I just joined Chictopia. Chictopia is a fashion social networking site. People share their own personal style photos and inspiration.  Plus you can acquire points to get rewards or additional features. It's fun so far. I love personal style and clothing as individual creative expression.  Add me as a friend if you do it too.

The JCrew catalog just got delivered to my house. How do they know I am home for the week?  Honestly I can't see myself ordering $70 shorts anytime soon but I like to see how they style the outfits.

virtual internships

I have an internship with a jewelry company called Lady Vanderbilt. This internship is being conducted entirely virtually, we mostly correspond by emails throughout the day and then conference by phone or online once a week.

I am handling social media PR and some online marketing. It's interesting how these things are changing due to Twitter and Facebook. So far we have really had a lot of success contacting fashion bloggers and having them host giveaways. It's an amazing amount of press for a very little money spent. Plus, fashion bloggers are really driving trends. Blogs are much more accessible than most print media. 

10 people i would like to meet

 These are not really in any particular order. I think right now the person I would like to meet the most is Kelly Cutrone because I just finished her book.

1. Oprah Winfrey
This one is a no-brainer. I used to watch Oprah every day. I really respect the book club and I think she is so smart. I would like to know who the people she thinks will be the big movers in the future. I would like to know what a typical day is like for her.

2. Kelly Cutrone
My current empowered female hero. Single mom, PR maven, new reality star, she is awesome. I like that she works in fashion but it relentlessly herself. Her book is sincere in wanting to share and teach young women. Her company works with all of these cutting edge designers and you can tell they have a high respect for the artistry of fashion. It's very reassuring that someone like her exists, it proves you can be authentic AND successful. I cannot wait to watch last night's episode of The City. Whitney Port is the luckiest girl to have Kelly Cutrone as her boss and consulting on her line.

3. Hugh Hefner
This might throw people off a little bit but I really think I would like Hugh Hefner if I met him. He just seems like a nice guy. I respect that he resisted pressure to make Playboy more explicit.  He is also a film buff and we like a lot of the same movies. I'm sure he has a lot of great stories. And who could resist a trip to the Playboy Mansion?

4. Tavi Gevinson
I read Style Rookie often. She is so smart, her posts are getting better and better. She really has a fantastic eye for art and design. I wish I had started OST when I was younger! She seems to have a great sense of who she is at such a young age. Simply cool.

5. Neil Gaiman
Gaiman is my favorite living author. American Gods is one of my favorite books. His blog is a must-read. I would like to have many cups of tea with him. I think I would be very intimidated to talk to him, I hold writers in high esteem.

6. Sophia Coppola
I am a huge fan of her as a director.  The Virgin Suicides is one of my favorite movies and I really liked her take on Marie Antoinette. Her movies are always visually arresting. A lot of them you could watch with the sound turned off.

7. Marc Jacobs
I love his clothes. I would become a fashion designer if I could study with Marc Jacobs. I just love his creativity. I want to learn his ways!

8. Grace Coddington
The creative director of US Vogue. I loved The September Issue. Rent it! Grace Coddington is a genius. Her photo shoots are these big-budget epic fantasies that I just want to live in. So inspired.

 9. Lauren Conrad
I think Lauren Conrad has done an awesome job staying classy while living in the public eye. She just seems like a girl's girl, someone you could actually be friends with. I'm glad she has a line at Kohl's, she should keep doing things that are accessible to people with budgets.

10. Erin Kaplan
This is Erin from The City. I love her personal style. She always looks amazing! And she's the youngest ever PR Director of Elle. Elle is my favorite fashion magazine. Something about her reminds me of a blonder Kate Moss. Maybe slightly Nico-ish? She's so chic.
I love that a young powerful woman is getting televison time. I could learn a lot from her. Anyway, anyone who can deal with someone as ridiculous as Olivia is worth talking to. I want to learn how to deal with people I don't get along with better.

I have to confess, I love jean shorts. Right now I'm into shorter distressed shorts worn with either a dark denim button down or a loose flowy top. It's summer.  I'm trying to channel like an authentic hippie chic or the genius that is Kate Moss. I'm wearing friendship bracelets and flip-flops. Ain't no shame in my game.

Etsy shop is open!

Okay, so I am super excited now that I have decided to start my own little online shop. I'm using etsy. It's a cute website. I think it is a fun idea for a hobby. Plus, I dont have to have other people handling aspects of my product- unlike consignment shops. I can control most of what goes on.Also, the listings stay up for 4 months unlike ebay. I only have one listing up so far. I'm going to set up a paypal account and figure out what else I am going to sell. Any suggestions would be appreciated. In the mean time, check out ETSY!.
